Statistics about Vaping Products in Canada

Vaping Products

Vaping has emerged as the preferred method to quit smoking cigarettes. It is seen as an alternative way to get your body’s requirement of nicotine without having to stick a lit cigarette into your mouth. This doesn’t mean that it is 100% safe for your health, but when compared to normal cigarettes, the differences in the risks and benefits are as clear as day and night.

There are various types of vaping products you can get from vape shops, but since the main goal is to  get nicotine, it is by far the most commonly vaped product, not just in Canada, but the entire globe. You should understand that not everyone who vapes is after nicotine or a desire to stop smoking. Some people have taken up the action as a recreational activity, and they don’t necessarily need to vape nicotine.

A survey in Canada has revealed that eight out of ten Canadians use vaping products with nicotine. The survey was conducted by Statistics Canada in a general drive to try and get detailed tracking information on vaping. According to the report, vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the vapor produced by a device such as vape pens, electronic cigarettes, and vape pods.

These devices are designed to heat the liquids into vapor which is then transformed into an aerosol. There are various types of e-liquids available in a variety of flavors. As noted earlier, it is not a must that the e-liquids contain nicotine, though most of the vape stores sell e-liquids with nicotine.

According to the survey, those who used vaping products in the last 30 days of the survey believed that the vaping products were less harmful than actual cigarettes. About 20 percent believed that both cigarettes and the vaping products posed the same dangers, while nine percent believed that the vaping products were more harmful than actual cigarettes.

The rest didn’t have an idea of which would be more harmful than the other. From this, it was clear that not all users of vaping products knew the dangers or the potential consequences they may face as a result of nicotine overdose. Here is a brief overview of some of the dangers associated with cigarettes-:

General toxicity – both nicotine and most chemicals used in cigarettes build up in the body over time to increase the level of toxicity.

Lung and throat irritation – smoking cigarettes can lead to the irritation of both the throat and the lungs. Those who smoke regularly usually refer to this as “throat hit.” It comes in the form of a tingling or burning sensation every time the person smokes.

Inflammation – cigarettes cause inflammatory responses to the lung cells. With time, this can lead to chronic inflammation of the lung tissues causing irreversible scarring of the lungs. This may lead to other lung conditions which may ultimately turn out to have deadly effects on the overall health of the user.

If you intend to use vaping products, therefore, choose the right nicotine dose when you make your order at the vape shop.

The survey also revealed that one out of ten users aged between 15 and 19 that tried using vaping devices did so without knowing whether or not they contained nicotine. This alluded to the high level of ignorance among those who are just starting to use vaping products. It also pointed to the fact that the younger generation tends to get into vaping for recreation because it seems more fun and fancy compared to sticking a cigarette in their mouths.

The survey also revealed a huge difference in the reasons why users vaped. The most common reason for users between the ages of 15 years and 19 years is simply out of curiosity. In other words, they were non smokers who wanted to quit smoking cigarettes, but just adventurous souls who wanted to “try” vaping. About 20% of those who vaped did so to reduce stress, while only nine percent vaped as a way of quitting or cutting down on smoking.

From the survey, it is apparent that the older users were more likely to use vaping products than younger users. This is because older folks have a genuine desire to quit or cut down on smoking. They understand the effects of smoking, and they are keen on avoiding all the health complications associated with smoking tobacco.
